A celebration of faith, service, and the fulfillment of a sacred promise

By Radhika Kripa Devi Dasi

Gurugram, formerly known as Gurgaon, holds a sacred place in India’s ancient heritage. The very name means “the village of the Guru,” referring to Guru Dronacharya, the illustrious teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas in the Mahabharata. Tradition states that this land was gifted to him by King Dhritarashtra in honor of his wisdom and guidance.

Over the centuries, “Gur goan” gradually became “Gurugram,” yet its spiritual identity remained intact. Today, though it has emerged as a modern economic and technological powerhouse, beneath the skyline of glass towers lies an ancient legacy—of learning, discipline, devotion, and the sacred relationship between guru and disciple.

As a new ISKCON temple now rises in this historic landscape, Gurugram reconnects with its original spirit—honoring the guru, upholding dharma, and offering a sanctuary of spiritual nourishment in a rapidly growing city.

The newly inaugurated ISKCON Temple in Sector 45—the second ISKCON temple in Gurugram—stands as a splendid fusion of Rajasthani architectural grandeur and Vaishnava devotional culture. The fasade immediately captures the heart with intricately carved sandstone-inspired patterns, elegant jharokha-style balconies, and traditional chhatris reminiscent of Jaipur and Jodhpur palaces.

The temple’s warm, earthy tones echo the golden desert hues of Rajasthan, while the symmetrical arches, lotus motifs, and delicate stone-like carvings lend it a timeless grace. Tall shikharas rise proudly above the sanctum, unmistakably announcing the temple’s sacred presence.

A proud addition to Gurugram’s ISKCON family—following the Badshahpur temple—the Sector 45 temple promises to become an iconic spiritual landmark, radiating both architectural magnificence and transcendental inspiration.

Every brick, carving, and detail reflects the love, labor, and sacrifice of devotees who served tirelessly under the guidance and blessings of His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja.

From planning to completion, devotees contributed in countless ways—through physical service, expert skills, financial support, and heartfelt prayers. Many worked day and night despite challenges, united by one desire: to please Guru Maharaja and Srila Prabhupada by offering a temple worthy of Their vision.

This is not merely a building of stone and artistry—it is a monument of collective devotion. The unwavering determination of the devotees echoes Srila Prabhupada’s instruction: “Working together in harmony for Krishna’s pleasure is the essence of devotional life.”

The Long Journey to Begin

In 2014, after years of persistent effort, HG Acyuta Hari Das and his wife HG Anirudha Devi Dasi finally secured the land from Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), overcoming numerous obstacles. The groundbreaking ceremony took place that same year in the august presence of HH Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja and several distinguished guests.

Although the project began, progress was slow. Later, by Guru Maharaja’s direction and mercy, His Grace Veda Vyasa Prabhu and His Grace Rasapriya Prabhu joined the service. With a strong history of successful temple development in Bahadurgarh, Badshahpur, and Rohini, their team infused new momentum into the project. Rasapriya Prabhu’s refined artistic vision shines deeply throughout the temple, both inside and out.

A Temple of Beauty and Devotion

The altar stands as an exquisite marble shrine, adorned with intricate carvings and enriched with 24-carat gold leafing. Crafted from pure white marble, its luminous surface reflects light with a pristine glow. Columns, arches, and panels are highlighted with delicately patterned gold work, creating an atmosphere of divine opulence befitting Sri Sri Radha Gopinatha, accompanied by the graceful Lalita and Visakha.

Magnificent wooden carved doors welcome every visitor, while a serene fountain outside the temple sets a peaceful tone. Inside, Srila Prabhupada’s asana, carved in the form of a majestic peacock, symbolizes purity and devotion.

One of the most enchanting parts of the complex is the Matchless Gift Shop. Its stained-glass panels—depicting Srila Prabhupada, the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, Krishna Book, and Back to Godhead—bathe the room in vibrant spiritual light. Hand-carved wooden walls complement the stained-glass artwork, creating a sacred and serene atmosphere. Illuminated depictions of cows, parrots, and peacocks infuse the space with divine beauty.

A Historic Inauguration

The temple was inaugurated on November 4-5, 2025, graced by esteemed GBC members and senior devotees. His Holiness Guru Prasada Swami (GBC Chairman) and His Grace Mahaman Prabhu (Zonal Secretary) presided over the ceremonies. The celebrations began with netromilan on the 4th, followed by sayana-adhivasa. The Deities’ beauty was indescribable—radiating love, bliss, and divine splendor. Their new residence, glowing with devotion, welcomed all with open arms.

During the auspicious Deity installation ceremony, the atmosphere became spiritually surcharged by the divine kirtan of His Holiness B. B. Govinda Swami. His ecstatic, heart-melting chanting uplifted everyone present and transformed the entire event into a transcendental celebration of the Lord’s arrival. Devotees felt immense grace as Maharaja’s kirtan invoked deep devotion, unity, and joy. The holy names resounded throughout the temple, filling the space with a sacred and elevating ambience.

Rasapriya Prabhu’s unwavering dedication and refined artistic intelligence transformed the project into a spiritual masterpiece. The temple stands today as testimony to both craftsmanship and devotion. The Deities’ new residence, resplendent with devotion and magnificence, now stands ready to welcome all.

A Promise Fulfilled

I vividly remember a conversation with His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja in March 2024. Guru Maharaja expressed deep concern about this project, desiring—like Srila Prabhupada—that temples for the Supreme Lord be extraordinarily beautiful, like royal palaces. I assured him repeatedly that this temple would be exceptionally beautiful and that he would be pleased to see the final result.

During the inauguration, I asked many senior devotees and sannyasis how they found the temple. Their responses — “Beautiful,” “Magnificent,” “Exquisite,” “Mesmerizing”— felt like Guru Maharaja’s heart was smiling.

With profound gratitude, I can say that the promise I made to Guru Maharaja has been kept. At the lotus feet of Guru Maharaja, I humbly declare: “My promise is fulfilled.”

Today, as the Sector 45 temple opens its doors, it stands not only as Gurugram’s second ISKCON temple but also as a shining testament to what devotees can achieve when united under the blessings of Guru Maharaja and dedicated to the service of Sri Sri Radha Gopinatha.
